Shetland Fiddle Week is a new event teaching and celebrating the Shetland fiddle tradition. Our first year was 2024 and we intent to continue as an annual event in the first week of August each year. Shetland Fiddle Week is organised by two Shetland fiddlers - Jenna Reid and Lynda Anderson. Both brought up in Shetland and having been taught within the islands, they have been immersed in the fiddle tradition their whole lives. They are also keen event organisers who worked together on the delivery of Shetland Fiddle Frenzy for 3 years from 2014 to 2016. They are both passionate about the preservation and growth of the Shetland fiddle tradition and in providing opportunities for musicians to learn and experience this unique musical style so close to their hearts. A key focus of the week for them is to ensure students are supported through their learning and that they experience a slice of Shetland musical and community life.

Training and working as a biomedical scientist, she has continued to play when time allows. She recorded and performed with Aberdeen-based band Cannach and was always keen to seek out sessions as a student in Aberdeen and Edinburgh.
With work as a research scientist taking her to live in Nashville for 5 years, she continued to combine science and music and thrived on the access to the incredible acoustic music scene in the city. Performing regularly with other traditional musicians in the area, a highlight was the chance to play Shetland fiddle tunes on the stage of the famed Grand Ole Opry, invited as a guest of the Mike Snider band.
Lynda worked on events and festivals for Shetland Arts, including during the first five years of operation of Mareel – Shetland’s purpose built music and cinema venue.
Lynda has continued to perform and record, most recently with Shetland bands KANSA and Tyunes. In 2012, she was a fiddle playing cast member of Duncan MacLean’s Long Gone Lonesome, which toured the USA for 6 weeks as a National Theatre of Scotland production.
